Raw Paws Pick Up

Today was the pick up day for my order from Rawpaws.org. Last night we had some rather exciting severe thunder storms and quite a bit of rain. What I didn't know when I arrived in Schaumburg, IL, was that parts of Chicago had closed roads and some schools were closed due to flooding. Leslie of rawpaws has a drop off in Wrigleyville, which is a northern neighborhood of Chicago. From Wrigleyville to Schaumburg, it took Leslie 3.5 hours. A group of us sat at the hotel outside waiting for her for 3.5 hours. Luckily she arrived and we all got our orders, but some had come from work.

This month I ordered 30lbs of turkey hearts, 20lbs of duck wings, a few packs of sheep tongue, two bags of duck heads and 3 2# rabbits. I actually sold one of the rabbits to a gentleman who buys from rawpaws for his cats. I suggested he try offering it to them and see if they'll eat it.  Everything is currently thawing so I can portion it tomorrow.

Turkey hearts:

Two rabbits I kept:

Duck heads:
I didn't get a photo of the tongue packages, but they're just wrapped in white paper.
For breakfast, Mac had frozen tripe.
Macs dinner tonight, turkey hearts and a duck head. The duck heads wee part of the rawpaws order I picked up today. As you can see, he removed the duck head from the bowl, enjoyed his hearts and then ate the head. . .He apparently has priorities. He does this with a lot of things. He'll remove the whole meat chunk from the bowl, lick the bowl clean of the fish oil and dasuquin, then eat the meat. . .

  1. Duck heads! How cool. I've only fed heads once, and it was when I shot some Coots a while back. My Shiba wouldn't touch the Coot, the the other two dogs loved it.

I've still got a Baby Beef head in the freezer from when a farmer gave me a dead calf. I am totally fine with gutting stuff myself, but heads, heads are where I get all squiggly. I dunno really what to do with the thing.
